SAHARA International Students Support Services in Windsor-Essex
Launched as SAHARA, which means “support” for International students in 2021, this program provides information, navigation and advocacy support to newcomer International students in Windsor-Essex.
Arriving to a new country, navigating their way through the challenges of a new culture, and experiencing various barriers (language barriers, culture shock, racism ec), many students contact us for community connections and support for various issues. These are few support resources:
Our Organization:
Currently, the centre offers a drop-in service to help with information, providing the needy students with food, clothing etc and group-based presentations (in-person as well as virtual) on available community supports, faith based institutions, cultural organizations and other settlement services provided by our community partners to help in their smooth transition in Windsor-Essex.
Our Advocacy support services empowers students with access to resources, their rights, the Police and Criminal justice system,information and referrals to health care, housing and legal system.
We also serve as a resource to the educational institutions, other community organizations and various levels of Government on various issues impacting the international students and their well-being.
